Dori was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the Lower Sierra Nevada Mountains. At California State University, Fresno, she was a founding member of the Feminist Art Program under the direction of Judy Chicago. She received her BFA and MFA from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California.

She has been teaching art to visually impaired adults at the Braille Institute in Los Angeles since 1984. This experience has made her more aware of accessibility issues as well as the multi-sensory aspects in her own artwork.

Atlantis works in mixed-media sculpture, installation and digital imagery. She is a member of the Los Angeles Art Association. Atlantis resides in Silverlake, California with her husband & son.
